New WITO

Edgefield, S.C. -More and more women are putting new meaning into the phrase, I'm going out with the girls, by learning to hunt, fish, camp and more at Women in the Outdoors events across North America.

The National Wild Turkey Federation's popular Women in the Outdoors program, which began in 1998 with 1,000 members, now boasts nearly 30,000. Through this program, women try their hand at outdoor activities ranging from canoeing to reading a compass. The benefit of attending an event is the chance to try different outdoor activities and gear with the help of expert instructors. In addition, these one-day events allow women age 14 and older to learn more about the NWTF?s mission to conserve wild turkeys and preserve the hunting tradition. Women in the Outdoors events can provide all this opportunity at a very reasonable cost, thanks to a combination of state and local NWTF chapter support and many great corporate and wildlife agency partnerships.

Sixteen state agencies have seen the success of the Women in the Outdoors program and have made the decision to officially partner with the program. These agencies include the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, the California Department of Fish and Game, the Georgia Wildlife Resources Division, the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks, the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, the Ohio Division of Wildlife, the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation, the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, the Texas Parks and and Wildlife Department, the VermontDepartment of Fish and Wildlife, the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, and the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources.
